Sorry I have not posted in a while! I had a summer course that I was busy finishing the papers for and then I went on vacation to Penticton, which I will blog about later!

ABOUT OUR HIKE:

On Canada Day this year my mom and I went hiking at Nihahi Creek, which is NOT to be confused with Nihahi Ridge. To get to Nihahi Creek you go to the same parking lot and everything as Nihahi Ridge, but instead of turning and going up into the ridge you continue on along the creek.

We walked a total of about 12.5 km and we went to what my mom calls her “secret waterfall”. This is because the waterfall is not marked on any map, but once you continue on the trail I am sure you’ll hear it and turn off the trail to find it! 😊

If you turn in the opposite direction of the falls you can also find the canyon. Which, is really neat. It is also an excellent spot to stop and have a snack!

To be honest when my mom told me the hike was approximately 13 km total I was hesitant, but honestly it was not too bad! There are a few hills, but if I can do you then so can the average person!

Things to remember:

Check the trail reports! Especially due to bears and the wildfires.
Bearspray.
Lots of water and a snack.
Wear comfy shoes.
Wear a hat and sunscreen.
And obviously, bring your camera 😉

WHERE TO FIND NIHAHI CREEK:

The directions on the trailpeak site explain it quite well:

“Drive west on Elbow Falls Trail (Hwy 66) for 29 km. (Be aware part of this road is closed from Dec 1 to May 14). Turn left into the access road for Little Elbow Recreation Area. Turn left at the “Trailhead Parking.” Walk down the gravel fire road southwest past the Little Elbow Campground Loop C, D & E or take the Little Elbow Trail along the north bank of the river until you reach a gate with a Kiosk which has maps of trails of the area”.

The only difference is instead of turning off the trail to go to the ridge you stay on the trail that follows the creek.

I hope you get a chance to enjoy this hike and if you look hard enough you may find the waterfall!
